Hay on Wye Camping at Walkers Cottage

Hay camping bell tent campfire cooking

The bell tent with matching linen and cosy carpets.

So last week I went off up the Wye a little way and crossed the famous toll bridge on the road to Hay. In Clifford I turned left up the hill, and after a few false turns found myself at their very unusual cottage. You will recognise it by the signs outside, Walkers Cottage, Artist Gallery and eggs. But you will discover much more once you are inside. To start with their little "farm shop" is full of Veronique's home made delights, nougat, biscuits, preserves and eggs of course. They serve teas and cakes to walkers who can either sit in the garden or the art gallery.

Their cottage has been added on to at some time by an architect with great imagination and this quirky room is reception, tea room, shop and gallery. This is where you will arrive if you wish to camp there.

The communal kitchen has a fridge, kettle and sink and a comfy sofa for relaxing out of the rain.

The garden is lush and all the surroundings on the campsite are well grown with fruit trees, chickens and clumps of tall grass. The campsite has wonderful views and is on a very slight slope over looking the Wye Valley. This is a small friendly site with a max of 10 tents. There are two fully furnished bell tents, if you prefer not to set up your own, and plenty of space for children to run and fly kites. Dogs and fires are allowed and there are fire pits to hire if you haven't got your own.

All the views from the campsite are beautiful. They over look the Wye valley. Here is the wild garden where they keep the bees.

There are some composting toilets, actually among the apples and plums. They also have showers and toilets in a cabin on the site. The larger part of this cabin is divided off to be a kitchen area with washing up facilities, fridge, kettle a table where you can sit and eat and a sofa for relaxation. Everything is south facing so flooded with light.

There are no marked pitches here but everything you could possible want in a rustic, quiet and beautiful spot. They are 5 minutes by car from Hay on Wye or 1 hour if you prefer to walk. Read the reviews.
